Golden Jubilee of TAAI - 50 Years

The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) was started by a small group of important travel agents in India and is now 50 years old. Ever since its inception, TAAI has played a most significant role in protecting the interests of the travel agents and tour operators.

When a small of group of Indian travel agents attended the ASTA convention in Washington D.C. in 1950, they were so impressed by ASTA that they felt the need for a national association in India. Thus, the idea of forming a national association was born which gave birth to TAAI (Travel Agents Association of India) in mid 1951.

The Managing Director of Trade Wings - Mr. Vinoo Ubhaykar has been associated with TAAI almost since its inception. He has actively participated in the functioning of TAAI as a member of the Managing Committee from 1965 - 1990 and is one of the stalwarts of the Travel industry. He is still a member of the Advisory Board. He was the President of TAAI from 1975-78. He was also the first Indian to be elected to the board of UFTAA as Director from Region No 3. Mr. Ubhaykar was elected as President of UFTAA at the UFTAA World Congress in Dubronvik, Yugoslavia. He has the distinction of being the first Indian and Asian to be elected as President of UFTAA. He is also the recipient of the industry's most prestigious Agastya Award in recognition of his lifetime achievements and contribution to the travel & tourism industry.

TAAI has been the voice of the travel industry for the last 50 years and is continuing its good work for the travel & tourism fraternity. We wish TAAI the very best and hope they continue the long innings started by the Founder President Mr. Nariman J Katgara.
